Character Name: Travis Byora
Fandom: Original
Original or Alternate Universe:
Canon Point:

Species: Demon
Age: 24
Appearance: Icons/PB: Alex Pettyfer

Background:
History - Travis was born in a citystate where politics were so huge and changing so constantly that simply having a certain political affiliation could land you with a price on your head from someone else. His mother died in childbirth, and while his father was able to raise him well enough on his own, he was assassinated for suspected conspiracy when Travis was seven.

Travis was sent to live with his uncle, who taught him how to fight. When he was fourteen, he left with his uncle's blessing, deciding that he could perfect his fighting (and probably learn some other things about the world) if he did it himself. He managed. .... Somewhat. ... Perhaps. Well, at the very least, his style is more his own than just some handed-down teaching, right?

It helped that shortly after he went off on his own, he was found in another city by a guild of assassins known as The Spire. They signed him on as an apprentice and he eventually worked his way up. He isn't the best assassin in the guild by any means -- that title actually goes to his "twin sister" (No actual relation, but damn, she looks just like him) -- but he's respected enough, known for getting the job done right. Just don't call on him for anything super-stealthy.

Of course, being a Demon means he has a natural affinity for chaos, even if he is a pretty nice guy at heart. He's done his share of destruction and mayhem in the form of sacking cities, coaxing people into *cough* questionable methods of payment... Hell, he's an assassin for a living. All in all, Travis's history is a very healthy dose of tl;dr.

Personality - Travis is not the most observant thing ever unless he's actually on a job. That isn't to say that he's stupid, he just doesn't see a need to be all that careful outside of his work. He also isn't the kind for extreme displays of emotion, and usually settles for a front of just a contented sort of happy. Thank goodness he has a decent sense of humor, especially since the people he tends to hang around with like to tease him. If he does have a problem or an issue, though, he tends to dwell on it for a bit too long before he actually does something about it. Also, when he gets angry, he goes quiet/still instead of yelling, unless it's annoyance instead of actual anger. In fact, if he's actively complaining about something, odds are that it isn't honestly bothering him. Travis does have a soft spot for kids, though getting him to admit to this would require hell freezing over and the sun going black.

He also has a slightly narcissistic streak, in that he's touchy about his appearance and thinks he might just be the goddess's gift to the bedroom on some of his better days/nights/whatever... Just roll your eyes and carry on. Everyone else does.

Reality Description: The reality is a bit strange. Here goes nothing...

In Travis's world, there are two realms: Meridia and Tharia. Meridia is a steampunk-esque world one country in size (think Australia), divided into several states. Political rule is still via "monarchy", though each race (of three) has their own king, queen and so forth.

Tharia is the more prominent (read: important to this character) realm. Tharia is closer to the USA as it was in the 1980s/1990s, with two major continents, each its own country. Travis comes from the country of Sennis, which is further divided into several citystates, each with their own inner politics to deal with. In Travis's citystate, the politics are especially nasty. People die on a regular basis for nothing more than being in the "wrong" political party. For further emphasis, consider this: even though they hold a democratic election for their president once every two years, it's been at least two decades since any leader has been in office for a whole term.

Travel between realms is known very widely in Tharia, but only the royalty and nobility of Meridia have even heard of Tharia's existence. As such, travel between the two is very, very minimal. Besides, Tharia has no need for anything in Meridia. Meridia, however, can easily benefit from travelers from Tharia, so there are portals set up between the two, created at first with magic from the best Meridian wizards, and later perfected by Tharian scientists. Travis's guild, The Spire, has recently extended their assassination services to those in Meridia who know of Tharia's existence.

Known races in both realms include Humans, Demons and Vampires. Some Elves also live in Meridia, but they're few and far between now and follow Human laws and such. Humans are analogous to... well, us. Somewhere along the evolutionary path ages ago, Demons evolved slightly differently: built more for running than the other races, with red-colored eyes (no exceptions here) and slightly extended canines, essentially fangs. Some have been able to channel their magic enough to tap into a "full form" at will, with batlike wings, horns and enhanced speed/reflexes (color/shape/style of horns and wings vary from Demon to Demon). Travis has managed this a few times. It's not something he's skilled enough with to rely on it, though.

The Vampiric race became its own race way later, after the outbreak of a venom that changed the genetic and biochemical makeup of of those that caught it (via saliva, blood, other bodily fluids). They do thirst for blood and are more sensitive to sunlight than other races. However, the garlic thing is a joke and they don't have to be invited inside. However, silver to them is like cyanide or arsenic to us. Once exposed to the venom, usually by being bitten, it takes 24 hours to run its course in the body. In this time period, it can be cured, but good luck finding the antidote. After that, you're stuck. The venom also passes to children, so it is possible to be born a vampire.

In both realms, the existence of elemental magic is commonplace. In Meridia, it's far more integrated into life and culture. Tharia treats magic like just another profession or skill, though, so it isn't quite as common but it's by no means unknown.

Powers/Abilities: Travis is an assassin by trade, so he is skilled in both fighting and getting-the-hell-out-of-dodge. He fights using arts learned from his uncle -- a style with two swords, which he backs up with tiny throwing daggers if ever necessary (though he certainly hopes not). He can access his full Demonic form, but that's touchy at best and he'd rather not mess with it. Even so, it is by no means godmod, it just means he can fly and move a little bit faster. Assassin also implies stealth, which he is perfectly capable of, but he's certainly not the best since he's not the most careful being in the world.
